The project involves the requalification of the urban area where the historical building 'Castello di Desenzano del Garda ' (Castle of Desenzano del Garda) is located. The intervention is aimed at the enhancement of the tourist attraction potential not just during summertime but also all over the year and is part of a wider intervention of requalification of the old town that started more than thirty years ago moving from the lakeside towards the inner historical streets.
The idea involves the implementation of two urban interventions in the castle area.
The first one is the creation of a cultural and entertainment center, through the expansion of the existing structure with the construction of a 600-seat-theatre in the Castle.
The second intervention is the restoration of a former school to make it a hotel-type tourist accommodation facility
Desenzano del Garda is a town in the province of Brescia, in Lombardy, Italy, on the southwestern shore of Lake Garda. Sometime in the first century, the area around lake Garda, including what is now Desenzano del Garda, became a favourite vacation spot for the Veronese élite, Verona being one of the largest Roman cities in northeastern Italy.
The city is a popular holiday destination in Southern €pe. It attracts tourists from the immediate area owing to its beautiful view of the Alps from the southern shore of Lake Garda, its three large beaches (Desenzanino Beach, Spiaggia Oro and Porto Rivoltella Beach), and its 27 major hotels.
Desenzano is the heart of nightlife on the southern shore of Lake Garda, with several discos and pubs. In the summer, its main squares, Piazza Malvezzi and Piazza Matteotti, are crowded all night with young and partying people.
At the heart of the city is a series of interconnected squares that house numerous open-air cafés, various shops and bars.
