Tourism and hospitality, the Lombardy Region recovers historic residences, castles, former hotels and colonies

The Lombard municipalities that have advanced projects that provide for redevelopment for tourist accommodation purposes are seven: Desenzano del Garda, Piazzatorre, Ponte di Legno, San Benedetto Po, San Pellegrino Terme, Selvino and Toscolano Maderno.

Tourism and hospitality dominate among the destinations of use of  real-estate development projects that the Lombardy Region will promote with Unioncamere Lombardia and Promos Italia on the platform prepared by Mipim- the most important event in the real-estate sector scheduled in Cannes.

First and foremost the Municipality of San Pellegrino Terme (BG) with the redevelopment of the "Grand Hotel San Pellegrino Terme". Remaining within the environment of reuse of historic houses we have to mention the renovation project of the historic "Villa Comunale del Serraglio (600) and park overlooking Lake Garda" in the Municipality of Toscolano Maderno (BS). This residence, which originated in the seventeenth century, belonged to the Gonzagas, a noble family of Mantua, and its renovation aims at using it as a high-quality dining facility, with the possibility of overnight-stay for up to 12 people; but it will also be possible to use it for events, ceremonies and cultural occasions.

Another historic building to be recovered and reactivated as an accommodation facility is the former mountain-colony "Sciesopoli", of Fascist era, presented by the Municipality of Selvino (BG). Worth of mention is also the "Seismic Repair and Improvement Project of the former monastic infirmary of the Abbey of San Benedetto in Polirone" of the Municipality of San Benedetto Po (MN). This property of high historical and artistic value was redeveloped and used as a tourist accommodation facility until 2012, when an earthquake made it unusable, today requires seismic repairs and improvement to regain its functionality.

On the other hand, the "Redevelopment of the Desenzano castle area" in the Municipality of Desenzano del Garda (BS) has cultural implications. The project idea, indeed, envisages the redevelopment of the urban area surrounding the historic building with the realization of two interventions: (i) a cultural and entertainment hub, with the strengthening of the role of the castle  itself, thanks to the construction of a theater with 600 seats; (ii) and the renovation of a former school building to be used as a hotel-type tourist accommodation facility.

The Municipality of Piazzatorre (BG) as well, with the acquisition of the "Colonia Genovese", a famous historic building from 1928, envisages the redevelopment and transformation of the building into a multipurpose tourist accommodation facility that will include services for culture, education, well-being and recreation, including a sports village which will be developed on a green area of thirteen thousand square meters. A tourism reactivation project for the local economy of the upper Brembana valley.

Also connected to sport facilities is the project presented by the Municipality of Ponte di Legno (BS) "Progetto Prati Alti", involving an area of about 95,000 square meters, between Ponte di Legno and Passo del Tonale, which could host a hotel complex consisting of a "hub " for ski-school services, catering and complementary activities, as well as entail the construction of small-scale residential buildings.

These are the seven projects promoted at Mipim 2022, for further information you can consult the technical informative presentations, including rendering and floor plans, on the website www.milanoandlombardyatmipim.com and www.investinlombardy.com.
